Best Preformed Thermoplastic Arrows and Symbols: 2026 Buyer Guide
Preformed thermoplastic is precut, factory-finished sheet material applied with a propane torch or infrared heater and rolled into the pavement. The four product lines that cover most US parking lot symbol work in 2026 are Ennis-Flint Premark, Crown Technology PrismaCut, 3M Stamark, and SealMaster preformed. All four meet AASHTO M250 at 90-125 mil build. The differences are in symbol library breadth (Ennis-Flint Premark covers 240+ symbols; SealMaster covers 60), color availability (high-vis green for EV stalls is Ennis-Flint exclusive in some Pacific Northwest distribution), and per-square-foot pricing (Crown PrismaCut leads on value).
When a property manager orders an ADA stencil, a fire-lane "FIRE LANE NO PARKING" text marking, or a continental crosswalk, the underlying product is preformed thermoplastic. Below we rank the four major product lines by where each wins and where each falls short, with industry baseline pricing and Pacific Northwest availability notes.
What is preformed thermoplastic?
Preformed thermoplastic is the AASHTO M250 sister specification to AASHTO M249 hot-applied. The material composition is similar (resin binder + filler + intermixed glass beads + pigment) but it arrives at the job already cut into the final symbol shape. Crew applies it by:
- Positioning the sheet on the pavement
- Heating the underside with a propane torch or infrared heater until the resin softens to ~250 degrees F
- Rolling or weighting the sheet to bond it to the pavement
- Dropping additional AASHTO M247 glass beads onto the still-soft surface for enhanced retroreflectivity
Cure to traffic-ready typically takes 5-10 minutes. The cured marking is identical in performance to hot-applied extruded thermoplastic of the same build thickness.

2. Crown Technology PrismaCut (Best Value)
Crown Technology PrismaCut delivers AASHTO M250 compliance at typically 12-18 percent lower per-square-foot pricing than Ennis-Flint Premark. The symbol library is narrower (140 stock symbols vs 240) but covers all common parking-lot needs. For property managers who do not need exotic symbols, PrismaCut is the value pick.
What we like
- AASHTO M250 compliant at 90-125 mil
- 12-18 percent lower per-square-foot pricing vs Ennis-Flint Premark
- Listed on 36 of 50 state DOT QPLs including Oregon DOT QPL
- Strong Pacific Northwest distribution through Salem and Portland warehouses
- Color line includes federal yellow, white, and blue at standard pricing
Where it falls short
- 140 stock symbol library misses some specialty markings (mid-block crosswalk variants, custom EV brand symbols)
- Green and red colors carry 4-week minimum lead time
- Custom-cut work has a higher minimum order than Ennis-Flint
Industry baseline range cost
| Product | Range |
|---|---|
| ADA International Symbol of Accessibility, 36 inch x 36 inch | $80 to $160 per symbol |
| Fire-lane "FIRE LANE NO PARKING" text, 4 ft x 18 inch | $115 to $220 per text |

3. 3M Stamark (Best Edge Detail)
3M Stamark preformed thermoplastic is positioned as a premium product with the cleanest factory-cut edge detail in the category. For high-visibility installations where symbol crispness matters (corporate-campus signage, premium retail entrances), Stamark delivers the cleanest finish.
What we like
- Factory-cut edge detail is the cleanest in the category
- AASHTO M250 compliant at 125 mil
- Strong technical support for non-standard installations
- Available through 3M's broad commercial distribution network
Where it falls short
- Per-square-foot pricing is highest of the four brands
- Symbol library is narrower (90 stock symbols)
- 3M discontinued their hot-applied resin product, so Stamark cannot be paired with same-brand extruded line work
- Some Pacific Northwest distributors prioritize 3M reflective sheeting over Stamark, leading to longer lead times
Industry baseline range cost
| Product | Range |
|---|---|
| ADA International Symbol of Accessibility, 36 inch x 36 inch | $130 to $240 per symbol |
| Continental crosswalk bar, 24 inch x 10 ft | $220 to $410 per bar |
4. SealMaster Preformed (Best Multi-Product Bundle)
SealMaster preformed thermoplastic is most useful for property managers who already source sealcoat through SealMaster local offices and want one-vendor accountability across the maintenance bundle. The preformed product line is narrower than the dedicated thermoplastic specialists but covers the most common parking-lot needs.
What we like
- Single-vendor sourcing with SealMaster sealcoat and crack filler
- Listed on 22 of 50 state DOT QPLs (including Oregon DOT)
- Pacific Northwest distribution strong through SealMaster local offices
- AASHTO M250 compliant at 90-125 mil
Where it falls short

Industry baseline range cost
| Product | Range |
|---|---|
| ADA International Symbol of Accessibility, 36 inch x 36 inch | $95 to $175 per symbol |

How does Cojo decide which preformed brand to use?
- Standard ADA, fire-lane, arrow, and crosswalk work -- Crown PrismaCut. Best value, AASHTO M250 compliant, in stock from Salem warehouse.
- EV charging stall installations -- Ennis-Flint Premark green frames. Crown does not currently stock the green-frame SKU in Pacific Northwest distribution.
- Premium corporate or retail brand installations -- 3M Stamark for cleanest edge detail, accepting the cost premium.
- Multi-product maintenance contract with sealcoat -- SealMaster preformed for the symbols within the bundle, accepting the smaller library.
What about the cold-weather constraint?
All preformed thermoplastic still requires substrate temperature at or above 50 degrees F for proper bond. The propane torch heats the underside to soften, but the substrate has to be warm enough that the resin does not chill on contact and lose adhesion. For cold-weather symbol installs, MMA cold plastic preformed (where available) or paint stencils are the alternatives. For full thermal-window guidance see our thermoplastic application temperature window writeup.
How should the quote line-item the preformed work?
A reputable contractor will line-item:
- Manufacturer SKU and size for each symbol type
- Per-symbol install price (material + labor)
- Glass-bead drop-on additional cost where applied
- Mobilization or trip charge if separate from line-work mobilization
If the quote says only "ADA stencils" or "preformed crosswalk" without naming the manufacturer, push back. The buyer needs the SKU to verify against state QPL.
